Issuu has a Google PageRank of 8/10. It's something we're proud of and it's very good news for you too! It basically means that uploading your content to Issuu will help you get more exposure, compared to sharing on a website with a lower PageRank.

The way it works is that when a document is uploaded on Issuu, we publish the full text of the document in a way that search engines can easily understand. When someone does a search on a Google or other search engines, they will be able to discover articles and text inside your publications.

For the most efficient SEO, make sure that text inside your publications is selectable (vector, not an image) before upload. Currently we do not perform character recognition (OCR) on images, so this is crucial. Also make sure to add detailed and specific metadata upon upload.

Your embeds and SEO

Search engines will always refer to your document on Issuu.com and not to embeds on your website. This is because the actual content (text, articles, images) are not included in the embed code, and the actual content is always be hosted on Issuu. To make Google understand the content of an embedded Issuu publication make sure to add meta data, description and tags on the page where it's embedded.

Please note: Private uploads are naturally not shared with Google and other search engines. If you discover a private Issuu document on a search engine it's because you've shared its link on a public page. Private publications only stay private if you keep them private.
